Packaging Requirements
Why Proper Packaging Matters
All shipments must be appropriately packaged before they are collected. Poorly packaged freight can cause injury to our courier partners’ staff, damage to other consignments, and may result in your order being refused or cancelled without refund.
By accepting our terms at booking, you confirm that your shipment meets the requirements outlined below.
General Packaging Standards
All freight sent through Speed Post must be packaged to ensure:
- The safety of our courier partners’ employees, the receiving party, and the general public is not put at risk
- Other consignments and equipment are not damaged during transit
- Your shipment arrives at its destination in the same condition it was collected
- Compliance with the National Transport Commission (NTC) Load Restraint Guide, including Australian Standard AS 2400.13 for tensional strapping
- All Heavy Vehicle National Law requirements for load restraint are met to prevent load shift or dislodgement in transit
- The consignor and packer fulfil their obligations under the Chain of Responsibility
Engines, Industrial Equipment & Machinery
- Must be shipped in a crate or fully enclosed with cardboard panels on all sides and the top, with corner and edge strengthening
- Must be secured to a pallet with at least 2 horizontal and 2 vertical straps
- Items should sit squarely on the pallet and must not overhang the edges
- Pallet must be large enough to prevent the item from tipping during transit
- All fluids (oils, fuels, coolants, etc.) must be completely drained prior to shipping
- Strapping must be appropriately rated for the weight and type of freight — refer to the NTC Load Restraint Guide
Tubes, Tyres, Drums & Irregular Items
- All heavy irregular items must be strapped to a pallet
- Items should sit squarely on the pallet with no overhang where possible, and the pallet must remain stackable
- Lighter tube-shaped items may be packed in a triangular shipping tube as an alternative
- Tyres must be laid flat (sideways) on a pallet, with strapping and stretch wrap securing both the tyres and the pallet itself
- Drums must be shipped upright on a pallet at all times
- All items must be secured with at least 2 horizontal and 2 vertical straps to prevent shifting in transit
- All strapping must be suitably rated — refer to the NTC Load Restraint Guide
